Bishop's Message
The Financial report is given to you in a spirit of stewardship. We, the staff, recognize our obligation to report how your gifts to God are used for the daily operations, for the many programs and for the various ministries of our parish.
All of us are proud of St. Brendan's. People are attracted to our church because of the spirit of faith and friendship that pervades everything. You love your parish, have close friends here and collaborate closely with our staff.
Without your generosity and sacrifice, without your involvement and volunteerism, without your support and encouragement, the parish could not be what it has become.
Gratitude is due to:
THE FINANCE COUNCIL: Behind the scenes is a volunteer group of men and women, who draw up a budget, monitor how that budget is maintained, and adopt polices for the raising and spending of funds in this large, urban parish. Their service and guidance is invaluable.
THE VOLUNTEERS: Hundreds of men, women and young people give their time and talent to our parish, our school, and our ministries too many to list. Their service is often unnoticed. If we were to pay each volunteer a minimum wage, the parish would come close to bankruptcy. If they were materially compensated, something precious and good would be lost: the spirit of love and sense of ownership of the parish.
ALL PARISHIONERS: You are the faces that come to mind when the name "St. Brendan's" is spoken. Your sacrifices, your cooperation, your compliments to us and your constant faith are what make the parish more like the Kingdom Jesus asks us to build. Thank you.
THE SINGLES, TEENS & SMALL CATHOLICS: To share our worship life with our young adults, to witness our teens at worship and at work, to watch our little ones around the altar on Sunday and filling the courtyard with sticky donut fingers after mass gives us not just hope for the future, but pride in the present. You are the younger church of today who will carry on what those who have gone before us have left to us and what we will hand over to future generations . . . May God bless your energy and your joy.
A recent survey in the "Spirituality & Health Magazine" stated that "Helping others on a regular basis can be good for your health . . . can produce health benefits such as stress relief and decreased sensitivity to physical and emotional pain . . ." Continue to give generously of your time, your talent and your treasure. It's good for your spiritual growth, for the spread of the faith and now we know (and any volunteer will tell you) it's good for you health!

Finance Committee Notes
- The Parish financial reports are prepared by Mr. Rod Rosato of TCM for review by our Parish Administration and the Finance Committee. If you have any questions please contact the Parish Office.
- During 2002 the Parish sold residential properties on Van Ness. The funds from the sale of the properties and a contribution from the school of $606,620.00 were used to purchase properties adjacent to St. Brendan School. A loan from the Archdiocese was needed to complete the purchase. As of June 30, 2003 the amount owed to the Archdiocese is $1,143,000.00.
- The St. Brendan School budget is maintained separately. Operations and fundraising for the school is sufficient to provide a quality education to over 300 students and to provide financial aid to families when needed.
- During 2001-2002 the Parish incurred substantial non-recurring expenditures which included improvements to the Rectory/Parish Office, Church Courtyard, landscaping, renovation of the Church bells, etc.
- During 2003 capital expenditures included planning for the new Parish Center, school expansion and anticipated Capital Campaign.
- Each year the Parish collects funds that are restricted and directed to the support of various charities, eg. Hope Net, Homeboy Industries, 9/11 Tragedy, Aids in Africa, etc.
