Readings for the Rite of Marriage
In this section, we provide readings used in the Rite of Marriage. These readings are from The Lectionary for Mass and are used in all Roman Catholic churches in the United States.
Couples who are planning a wedding, and those who will participate by reading from the Holy Scripture during the ceremony, are invited to select and review their readings in this section.
Those who have been asked to read at the wedding ceremony have not only received an honor from the couple, but are acting as liturgical ministers for all those assembled. They should carefully, thoughtfully and prayerfully prepare for their reading.
The readings offered here are the First Reading, usually from the Hebrew Testament, the Second Reading, from the New Testament, and the Gospel, which will be read by the deacon or, if there is no deacon, the priest. There is also a Responsorial Psalm to be sung or read; your parish wedding coordinator can help you select that.
All the community of God's people rejoices in the marriage of two people, and the Archdiocese extends to you our prayerful wishes for many years of happiness.
