Homeless Ministry

On Saturdays, St. Brendan parishioners join together to feed the homeless at Blessed Sacrament Social Services Center in Hollywood. For each of these "Sunshine Saturdays," parishioners prepare food in their homes and bring the food to serve to the homeless.

Many of the Saturdays involve a parish ministry or group that arranges to provide the food and servers for that day. For example, the Parish Council, the Filipino Ministry, the Parents School Board, the Youth Ministry and others have been Sunshine Saturday participants, broadening their own ministry to include direct service to those society deems as "the least."

The Homeless Ministry has also conducted food drives when the pantry at Blessed Sacrament has gone dangerously low, and continues to explore new ways to serve the vast homeless population in our community through direct service and advocacy.

The Homeless Ministry also provides holiday parties for the homeless, such as Thanksgiving dinner, Easter and Christmas luncheons including Christmas gifts, and other holiday meals such as Valentines Day.

If you are interested in participating in this ministry, please contact Joan Curtin, homeless ministry chair, at jcurtin@morganlewis.com.

Donations of clothing

For information about donations of clothing to the homeless served at Blessed Sacrament Social Services, please see our partner parish section. The clothes most needed for the homeles are men's clothing; donations of clothing for women and children are also accepted at St. Brendan and will be provided to local shelters for children, teenage single mothers and families who have fled abusive living arrangements.
